Hello and greetings,

Welcome to my blog! My name is Iris Robertson. I live and work in Brooklyn NY. NYC is truly the "city that never sleeps"; tons of things to do always. It is fast-paced but you can also find time and places to be quiet and reflect. Love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Hi Iris,
I have always wanted to visit New York and I hope too soon. I have seen and heard so many wonderful stories from my friends especially the shopping :) Do you think you will continue with your blog after this course? I plan on posting more blogs, it's interesting to read other thoughts and perspectives :)

I enjoyed reading your blog introduction.

    1. Hi Allenda,

I think I may. I am having so much fun with this. If you decide to visit the Big Apple, please feel free to look me up. You'll love Canal Street, great knockoffs!

  2. Hi Iris. I have been to Buffalo and Niagara Falls a few times but never NYC. To be honest, I think it would be a little too overwhelming for me. I HAVE imagined going there to meet Ben Bailey, though. lol (He is the host of the show "Cash Cab", if you didn't know) I am having difficulty getting my blog to come up with the link that it provided me with. I hope you guys can access it. I look forward to speaking more with you in class. :)

    1. Hi Amanda,

I caught the show last week and instantly fell in love with it. It's very upbeat and fun. I'm not a big reality show fan but definitely like this one.

Don't worry about your link. It'll work.

      Cheers!

  3. Hello Iris!

How do you think living in New York affects your physical well-being, spiritual well-being and psychological well-being? I am from Pennsylvania born and raised but, my heart is in Alabama! It has been good for me physically, psychologically and spiritually and could not imagine calling any other place home!

    1. To tell you the truth Michelle, I never gave it too much thought. I've experience good times and sad times. But saw it has life experience, part of the life cycle. I have a home in TN, 40 miles south of Nashville and I go there to regroup and debrief. I love it but it's nothing like being in NY. The convenience, culture and people just give you a different perspective on life. No where else gives you the opportunity to meet so many different types of people, tastes of food, opportunities and healthcare. It is truly the city that never sleeps. It's a transit city so you don't really need a car but its nice to have one. I truly love it and when I do retire to TN, will miss it.

By the way, Huntsville is only 2 hrs away from my TN home.

  4. Hey Class,

I completed the Loving Kindness exercise and wanted to share my findings. I must admit my heart beat rapidly in anticipation not knowing what to expect. However, when I heard the soothing voice of the narrator and the gentle ocean waves, as on cue I began to breath in and out until my heart rate slowed.

You see this exercise is very similar to my practice of prayer which I do when I awaken every morning. I first think of my love ones, then my extended family (friends), and the world. The sick and shutin, the young people and just everybody. I pray for strength, wisdom and knowledge. To help those that I can, I pray for salvation and healing. I think of my little grandson. He is so energetic, curious about everything and wants to learn.

When I finished, I was so relaxed, smiling from the inside out and very peaceful. My description of a mental workout is bringing to bear images of loved ones and other issues, training the mind to absorb the good and release the negative. We as humans often get stuck but the key for me is to let go and let God!
